Responsible AI at Project O2

Project O2 (operated by Magic Forest d.o.o.) uses artificial intelligence and autonomous systems — including drone-based imaging, GIS analysis and multispectral survey processing — to plan, execute and verify reforestation. This page explains how we use these technologies responsibly, in line with the EU AI Act and the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

Human oversight

AI and automated tools support our foresters and agronomists; they do not replace them. A qualified human makes the final decision on every planting site, species mix and intervention. Drone operations are supervised by trained pilots, and survey outputs are reviewed by domain experts before they inform any action on the ground.

Data governance

The data we process is overwhelmingly environmental — terrain imagery, soil and vegetation indices, slope and climate data. We minimise the collection of personal data, process only what is necessary, and handle any personal data in accordance with GDPR and our Privacy Policy. We do not sell personal data, and we apply appropriate technical and organisational security measures to the data we hold.

Transparency

We are open about where automation is used. Reforestation outcomes we report to partners — trees planted, area restored, survival rates — are grounded in measured survey data, not model estimates presented as fact. Where AI assists an analysis, we describe its role rather than implying a purely manual process.

Accountability & safety

We operate drones in compliance with applicable civil-aviation and environmental regulations. We assess the environmental and safety impact of our methods, favour native and biodiverse species over monocultures, and take responsibility for the outcomes of the projects we deliver. Concerns about our use of AI or automation can be raised at any time.
