Over the past thirty years, the world has lost 420 million hectares of forests, and in 2022 alone, more than 6 million hectares of forest were lost – an area larger than Sri Lanka – while deforestation rates increased by 4% instead of declining.

Forests, in addition to being home to more than half of the world’s terrestrial plant and animal species, play a crucial role in combating global warming. Over a billion people depend on them for their livelihoods, and around 300 million people actually live in forests.
